Greece's health authorities have confirmed the country's first case infected with strain B.1.617, a coronavirus variant that was first detected in India. The National Public Health Organization (NPHO) said in a statement on Friday that the positive sample belongs to a male inhabitant of Patras in western Greece, who developed symptoms from March 16 and was detected in testing by the National Genomic Surveillance Network on March 22.

The Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday said that with the detection of N440K mutant in Kashmir, people who have recovered from Covid-19 could be re-infected with the mutated strain of the novel coronavirus. 'Those who have recovered from Covid-19 infection earlier could get sick again with the new variant,' said DAK President and influenza expert Dr. Nisar ul Hassan said in a statement here this afternoon.

A long-awaited Covid-19 travel bubble between Hong Kong and Singapore will go ahead and could still launch in May, according to sources, despite a mutated coronavirus strain penetrating the former’s community. The two cities are set to outline plans in the next couple of days for restoring travel links a month later, sources familiar with the talks have revealed. “We will not pull out of the plan,” a Hong Kong government insider said on Tuesday morning. “The Singapore government is very keen on materializing it as soon as possible.”

Osaka to seek another virus state of emergency declaration

With Osaka Prefecture still reporting record-high numbers of COVID-19 cases two weeks after it imposed stricter measures, Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura announced Monday that he will ask the central government to impose a fresh state of emergency. “I’ve decided it’s necessary to request that the government declare a state of emergency for our prefecture in order to stop the movement of large groups of people. Stronger measures that request that theme parks, department stores and large shopping centers close are needed,” Yoshimura told reporters Monday morning.
